A gable roof for a shed can be built with rafters with a 1 6 ridge board or using trusses. Much depends on the structure size and the desired attic loft or headroom. Nail the first boards on top of your wall where you plan to build your roof. Your local building codes may also require the use of hurricane ties for each truss member where it rests on the top plate.
